Bills should not be passed in haste: Kharge

New Delhi, Feb 8 (Reporter) Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday said that all good works should be appreciated beyond party politics and bills should not be passed in a hurry. Speaking at the farewell of retired members of the Upper House, Kharge said, “All good works in the country should be appreciated, no matter which party they belong to”. Praising the former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, the Congress President said that a lot of good works were done during the tenure of the Manmohan Singh government and they should also be accepted. He said that Rajya Sabha is not only the Upper House but it is also the house of ideas. All the members here have made valuable contributions. Kharge said that now bills are being passed after suspending the members from the House, which is not a good start. Due to this, the bills cannot be discussed and the government passes them in a hurry. The result is that after a few days there is a need for revision. The Leader of Opposition also urged that facilities of retired members be increased. “Generally all the members are not rich and do not spend time in earning money. They devote all their time to social service. They often have to live alone. The government and the House should also pay attention to the retired members,” he said.
