Jammu, Mar 10 (Reporter) In the backdrop of recent killings of three persons in Billawar tehsil, People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti on Monday said that she was not allowed to visit the families of the deceased and meet them.
"We wanted to visit Billawar to pay condolences to the families but were not allowed," Iltija here told reporters at a press conference.
She said, "three people were killed including a 14-yr-old. What was his fault?"
"PDP leaders were not allowed to visit there, Congress leader Choudhary Lal Singh was also stopped but BJP leader Sunil Sharma was permitted to meet the families," she said adding, "why these double standards when the administration is saying that visit of political persons can vitiate the atmosphere then why people from the ruling party are only given the access."
"Worrying thing is the disturbing situation in the bordering Kathua district with each passing day," she said adding, "before 2019, in Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch districts, there was almost end of terrorism but 5 jawans were martyred last year, two youths were earlier found dead and these killings are worrisome in this district."
"Apparently, situation is getting communal ," adding she said that during her visit to Billawar last month to meet family of Makhan Din, who committed suicide after allegedly tortured by police, Iltija said that people are living more in scare of Police than terrorists.
On Gulmarg fashion show, she said, "tourism comes under the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah then how it is possible that he was not aware of it."
"People were not properly dressed up, some were seen consuming alcohol. We have our sensibilities and such events should not have been allowed in the holy month of Ramzan in a place like Kashmir known as Rishivar, Peervar," said the PDP leader.
She also condemned the heckling of Bani MLA.
On protesting daily wagers, Iltija Mufti said, "Omar Abdullah government is not fulfilling promises made to the people...////...
