Patna, Mar 5 (Reporter) The membership of RJD MLC, Sunil Kumar Singh, was reinstated in Bihar Legislative Council on Wednesday.
Soon after the Upper house assembled for the day, Chairman Awdhesh Narayan Singh announced reinstatement of the membership of Sunil Kumar Singh.
Referring to the order of the Supreme Court, the Chairman said that no payment would be made to Singh during the period of seven months of his suspension.
The Chairman also hoped that Singh would maintain the dignity of the House.
Welcoming the reinstatement of the membership of Singh, former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi expressed gratitude towards the chairman on behalf of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and her party.
Earlier, Singh through a letter on Monday had requested the Chairman to reinstate his membership in the Council with immediate effect in compliance with the judgment of the Supreme Court delivered on February 25 this year.
In the letter, he had stated that as per Articles 141 and 142 of the Constitution of India, all orders of the Supreme Court are binding across the country and must be complied with immediately, in both letter and spirit. Any delay in implementing this judgment may be considered as non-compliance with a binding constitutional directive and may amount to contempt of court.
As it is, Singh was terminated from the Upper House for mimicking Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on July 26 last year. Singh had done the act of mimicry of Chief Minister Kumar before him in the House on February 13, 2024, during a heated exchange between opposition and ruling parties.
Singh had even called the CM as "Paltu Ram", following which the issue of his unruly behaviour was handed over to Ethics Committee for investigation.
He did not appear before the Committee and remained defiant despite several notices issued to him, following which his membership was terminated.
Singh later approached the court for relief...////...
