Kolkata, June 19 (Reporter) Voting in the first four hours at the Kaliganj assembly bypoll in West Bengal's Nadia district began with a brisk note as over 30 per cent of 2.5 lakh voters cast their voting rights up to 11 AM, according to the state election commission figures on Thursday. The voting was slow initially following inclement weather and continuous monsoon rains, but it picked up at 309 designated centres, with Central armed forces guarding all polling stations spread across 13 panchayat areas. Barring some stray incidents, the voting was peaceful so far, officials said. Poll officials have barred voters from taking mobile phones inside the polling booths. The by-election is restricted to a triangular fight among the ruling Trinamool Congress, the main opposition BJP and Congress-Left combination in the border district. TMC's Alifa Ahmed, BJP's Ashis Ghosh and Congress' Kabil Uddin Sheikh are prominent players in the fray. Alifa's father had held the seat for ten years.
