Bengal: Two TMC activists sustained gunshots in shootouts at Belgharia

Kolkata, Mar 9 (Reporter) Two Trinamool Congress (TMC) activists, including the ruling party's trade union leader Vikash Singh, have been wounded in a shootout at Belgharia, the outskirts of this city in North 24 Parganas, on Saturday night, official sources said on Sunday. Singh, the trade union leader at Texmaco, sustained bullet wounds on his stomach and was undergoing a major surgery at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in north Kolkata early this morning. Police and eyewitnesses said three motorcycle-borne gunmen wearing helmets shot several rounds from a close range in Belgharia's Uttar Basudebpur on Saturday night. Singh was standing in front of a tea stall when the unidentified miscreants shot the INTTUC leader. Another youth, Shantu Das, also sustained bullet wounds and was admitted to the Sagar Dutta Hospital in North 24 Parganas. Sources said the medics at the RG Kar hospital performed over 5 hours of operation on Singh for his stomach wounds. Both Singh and Das are members of the Kamarhati town Trinamool Congress Committee. The two were first rushed to College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Hospital, Kamarhati. But Singh was referred to the RG Kar following his serious injury. Police were probing the crime...////...
