Kolkata, Aug 15 (Reporter) West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Thursday visited the trouble-torn RG Kar Hospital here after a large group of unidentified miscreants vandalised the government properties of the emergency block at midnight last night in which some 15 police personnel sustained wounds, amid massive protest against the alleged rape and muder of a lady medic, official sources said.
The governor said the rape and murder of the trainee doctor was a shame for humanity and such crimes against women in the state were repeatedly taking place.
He also spoke to the agitating junior doctors, who have been on cease work since Friday morning, and assured them he was with the truth and justice.
The medics have been demanding justice and arrest of the culprits, even as one suspect - Sanjay Roy- was arrested on Friday after the 31-year-old 2nd year post graduate lady trainee doctor's body was recovered from the seminar room of the chest department with multiple marks of injuries.
The post mortem report suggested she was raped and then murdered brutally.
There is widespread apprehension that not a single person can do such a crime as her neck and pelvic were found broken.
Bose visited the vandalised emergency building, and took stock of the situation and interacted with the protesting students on the site.
The miscreants in a large group armed with lathis and other missiles rampaged the hospital ground floor damaging CCTV cameras, server room, and destroyed a police outpost in the complex, some vehicles in which 15 policemen, including the DC North and OC Maniktala police station
sustained wounds.
Police have arrested nine suspects in relation to the vandalism. The agitating doctors had to run away in the brazen attacks by the rampaging mob in the midnight.
BJP's state president Sukanta Majumdar on Thursday said they would now start agitation against vandalism and demand resignation of chief minister Mamata Banerjee holding her responsible for the alleged lawlessness across the state.
He told reporters that they would start a protest meeting at the RG Kar Hospital doctor's murder, vandalisation of the hospital with a demand for the CM's resignation from Friday.
"Why attack on the peaceful agitation of the medics," asked Majundar, who is also a Union minister.
He said their protests across the state would start from 2 PM to 4 PM from tomorrow.
Majumdar said BJP's women wing would launch a candle light march to the CM residence.
Meanwhile, the CBI which has taken up the case on Wednesday, a day after Calcutta High court transferred the case to the federal agency from Kolkata Police, is yet to make any headway barring taking the custody of the suspect.
There is widespread apprehension that the crime was done not by one person only and there were more persons.
Sources said the special team from the CBI New Delhi office comprising forensic experts have been visiting several places to gather information about the crime and its motive...////...
