Bangladesh summons Indian Acting HC, protests against false and fabricated statements by Hasina

Dhaka/New Delhi, Feb 6 (Reporter) Bangladesh’s army backed-interim government on Thursday lodged a strong protest against the “false and fabricated statements” made by deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who is sheltered in India. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed over a protest note to the Acting High Commissioner of India Pawan Badhe, who was summoned to the ministry a day after Hasina’s audio statement was aired on social media, newagebd reported. “Through the protest note, handed over to the Acting High Commissioner of India in Dhaka, the Ministry conveyed the deep concern, disappointment and serious reservation of the Government of Bangladesh, as such statements are hurting the sentiments of the people in Bangladesh,” said a press release issued by the ministry. It said, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs lodged a strong protest with the Government of India over the false and fabricated comments and statements continuously being made in different platforms including social media, by the former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, instigating instability in Bangladesh.” The ministry also emphasised that such activities by her, were considered as a hostile act towards Bangladesh and were not conducive to the efforts at establishing a healthy relationship between the two countries. The foreign ministry requested the Indian government to immediately take appropriate measures, in the spirit of mutual respect and understanding, to stop her from making such false, fabricated and incendiary statements using social media and other communications while she is in India. Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain told media on Thursday that Dhaka has requested New Delhi in the past of asking Hasina to refrain from such activities but did not get any reply from New Delhi. Hossain said Hasina’s recent remarks were very damaging, “which might have hurt the young generation's sentiments”. "We will see what steps India takes," Hossain said, adding that Dhaka keeps requesting India so that Hasina refrains from such activities. Asked about signed agreements with India, the Foreign Adviser said the deal with Adani was not a good one and it was not done protecting Bangladesh’s interests, Dhaka Tribune reported. Meanwhile, the Dhanmondi 32 residence of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was demolished on Wednesday night while many of the ousted Awami League leaders’ houses in places were also bulldozed and set on fire centering on Sheikh Hasina’s audio statement aired on Facebook on Wednesday evening.
