Mumbai, Nov 16 (Reporter) In the NCP leader Baba Siddique murder case, the city Crime Branch on Saturday arrested a 21-year-old youth from the Indo-Pakistan border in Punjab, bringing the total number of arrested suspects to 24, officials said here.
A team is in process of bringing accused Akashdeep Singh hailing from Fazilka village in Punjab.
"Singh has played an active role in conspiring to kill Siddique. We are yet to ascertain his exact role but after his name cropped up during our investigation, we laid a trap around his hometown and nabbed him,” officials further said, adding that Mumbai police have successfully obtained a transit remand from a local court.
On October 12, between 2115 hours and 2130 hrs, Siddique was allegedly shot multiple times by three men as he exited his office in Bandra (West), Mumbai. Despite being rushed to nearby Lilavati Hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A case has been filed under sections 103(1), 109, 125, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as provisions of the Arms Act and the Maharashtra Police Act at Nirmal Nagar Police Station against arrested accused.
