Srinagar, Aug 31 (Reporter) Ahead of Assembly polls, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will address two election rallies in Jammu and Kashmir on September 4.
Rahul will address election rallies in Dooru in Anantnag in Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu as these two constituencies are going to the polls in the first phase.
Last week, Congress and the National Conference entered into a pre-poll alliance with NC contesting 51 seats and the Congress 32. Two seats were left for allies CPI(M) and Panthers Party. There would be friendly contest between the two parties on five assembly seats.
“Rahulji is coming purely for the election campaign. He has two programmes scheduled for that day,” J&K Congress President Tariq Karra said on Saturday.
“We have planned one of his programmes in Banhial and another in Dooru as both the constituencies are in electioneering mode,” Karra said during a press conference.
He said there was ideological conflict within the BJP and leaders in that party were confused as whom to follow.
On this occasion former MLA Abdul Rahim Rather and youth leader and district development committee member Irfan Hafeez Lone joined the Congress.
Meanwhile, former Chairman of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI), Sheikh Ashiq, joined the Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) led by incarcerated MP Engineer Rashid.
Sheikh Ashiq formally joined the party during a ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Sheikh Ashiq emphasized the need for AIP to restore the credibility of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the current political crisis and stressed that it is the right time to serve the people...////...
