Guwahati, June 17 (Reporter) As the ONGC gas leakage continued in Sivsagar district of Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced a one-time assistance of Rs 25,000 to each family affected by the gas leakage.
The one-time assistance is for the immediate relief of the families who have to vacate their houses due to the gas leakage in the adjoining areas.
The Chief Minister also said that he would take up the issue of compensation to the affected families with the ONGC and the Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
The CM made it clear that the financial assistance is being given from the Chief Ministers' Relief Fund and that it is not connected to the compensation.
The gas leak occurred on June 12 at Rig No. 147(A) and Well No. 135, located in the Rudrasagar oil field at Barichuk, Bhatiapar. Despite attempts by the ONGC to plug the leak, it is still continuing affecting about 1,500 people and 350 families have been shifted to relief camps.
Sarma said that efforts were on by the ONGC to plug the leak but despite best efforts, the leakage is still continuing. He said he was aware of the ONGC's plan to bring an expert from the US to plug the leak and that he appreciated the efforts taken by the ONGC...////...
