Itanagar, Apr 8 (Reporter) In a major breakthrough under Operation Dawn 2.0, the Itanagar Police arrested a suspected drug supplier from the Civil Secretariat premises here, recovering a substantial quantity of suspected heroin in a swift and coordinated operation, SP Rohit Rajbir Singh said on Tuesday.
The bust took place after alert Secretariat staff reported the presence of a suspicious individual locked inside a bathroom on the 3rd floor of Block No. 3. The suspect, identified as Vicky Chetry (32), was reportedly confined by security personnel before police arrived.
Acting on the tip-off, a police team led by Itanagar SDPO Kengo Dirchi, including Inspector Khiksi Yangfo, SI Kenter Tacha, and the police station ready party, immediately rushed to the scene. The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Itanagar SP Rohit Rajbir Singh.
Chetry, a resident of Ziro Point near Itanagar Gompa and currently serving as an MTS in the Horticulture Department, was apprehended with multiple vials and paraphernalia used for drug distribution. His permanent address is village Borgolai Milan Naga, Borgolai, Margherita, Tinsukia (Assam). He is presently employed as an MTS in the Horticulture department.
In the presence of independent witnesses, a search of the accused led to the recovery of 8 plastic vials containing suspected heroin, 1 tobacco container with suspected heroin, 4 used 1ML syringes, and Rs 32,760 in cash (in mixed denominations).
Following further interrogation, Chetry revealed that more contraband had been hidden behind the bathroom window, which led to the seizure of 18 additional plastic vials of suspected heroin, and 3 scissors used in narcotics handling.
Total narcotics seizure amounted to 44.36 grams, including 26 vials containing 36.82 grams and 1 tobacco container with 7.54 grams.
All legal procedures including search, seizure, weighing, and documentation were carried out strictly under the NDPS Act, 1985. A case has been registered and further investigation is ongoing, the SP said.
The Itanagar Police lauded the alertness and cooperation of the Secretariat staff, reinforcing the success of Operation Dawn 2.0 in targeting narcotic networks, even in high-security government areas...////...
