New Delhi, Jan 11 (Reporter) The deployment of the Indian Army in Manipur is to help the civil administration, and despite provocations, the Assam Rifles and all units have displayed lots of restraint, Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande said on Thursday. Addressing the annual press conference here on Thursday, Gen Pande said that the Assam Rifles had shown tremendous restraint, and despite provocations, there had been no collateral damage or casualties to civilians from their action. Talking about the looting of weapons during the Manipur violence, the COAS said that 30 percent of the missing weapons have been recovered, and it was a challenge to find the remaining weapons. He, however, added that they were in touch with the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to find the missing weapons. He said, “Our deployments in Manipur are synergized, and we are working in coordination with the state administration.” He said there were soldiers from both communities, and they have been working together without any issue. On the situation along the Indo-Myanmar border, the general said that “it was a concern, and the India Army is closely watching it." Gen Pande said that there had been instances of Myanmar Army personnel and Bhutanese civilians entering Indian territories and seeking shelter. Moreover, some insurgent groups, due to pressure from the Myanmar side, were attempting to come to the Indian side of Manipur.
