Jammu, Oct 28 (Reporter) Army on Monday evening confirmed the elimination of one terrorist in an ensuing gunfight between security forces and terrorists in Sunderbani Sector of Akhnoor close to the Line of Control in Jammu.
Heavy exchange of firing took place between terrorists and the security forces in an encounter triggered after terrorists fired upon an army vehicle early morning on Monday near the Line of Control here in the Sunderbani sector of Jammu.
"The body of one terrorist along with a weapon has been recovered and the operation is under progress," said an Army spokesman as per the White Knight Corps confirmation on X.
However, earlier denying the reports of the elimination of three terrorists in the operation, the Police spokesperson said, "We deny the reports regarding the encounter in Akhnoor involving the neutralization of three terrorists. It is confirmed that no injuries were reported from the attack on the Army vehicle, and further details are being investigated."
"The situation remains under control, and we urge the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information," said the spokesperson, adding that the security forces continue to monitor the area closely following the recent alerts for border districts.
Meanwhile, official sources said that terrorists early morning on Monday fired upon an army ambulance in the Battal Keri-Jogwan area near the Line of Control in the Sunderbani sector of Akhnoor in Jammu.
"Terrorists believed to be three have been spotted near Assan Mandir, Battal in Khour area of Sunderbani sector of Akhnoor," they said.
They further added that the terrorists fired some rounds on the Army ambulance following which the area was cordoned off and a joint search operation was launched by Police and Security forces.
"The terrorists fired upon the search team, which was retaliated and a gunfight triggered in the morning," they said, adding that no injury was reported on their side in the firing while the operation was in progress.
The Army said that the terrorists fired upon a convoy near Asan in Sunderbani Sector, targeting Army vehicles in the morning.
