Srinagar, Apr 10 (Reporter) A day after two major parties of Kashmir National Conference and People's Democratic Party announced they would move the apex court against the new Waqf Act, Apni Party on Thursday submitted an intervention application to the apex judiciary challenging the legislation.
The application, filed on behalf of party president Altaf Bukhari, questioned the constitutional validity of the amendments made to the Waqf Act.
“The Apni Party has submitted an intervention application under Order 1 Rule 8A of the Supreme Court Rules, 2013, before the Chief Justice of India and the companion Justices of the Hon’ble Supreme Court.” a statement issued by the party said.
“The application challenged the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, which substantially alters the framework of Waqf administration in India, including redefining core concepts, dismantling institutional autonomy, and shifting adjudicatory powers to executive authorities,” the statement reads.
The Apni Party had announced on April 7 its intention to approach the Supreme Court over the matter.
Meanwhile, NC MP Mian Altaf appealed to all political parties, including rivals, to set aside differences and unite in opposing the Waqf Act.
“I urge everyone including my party (NC) and opponents to refrain from any politics on this (Waqf Act) matter and come together to oppose this decision,” Altaf told reporters on Thursday...////...
