Kadapa, May 3 (Reporter) The police seized 84 red sander logs worth over Rs 1 crore while being transported in a lorry by concealing them under the cabbage load at Vontimitta village.
DFO Vinit Kumar told the media that on a tip-off, a team of forest and police conducted checking of vehicles. They noticed a lorry was moving suspiciously. When the officials stopped the lorry to check it, the driver did not stop it and started driving the lorry at high speed.
The police and the forest officials chased the lorry for some distance. When the forest officials tried to stop the lorry at the Bhakarapet check-post, the lorry driver did not stop the vehicle and proceeded.
Noticing that the police were chasing the lorry, the lorry driver stopped the lorry on the road and fled the scene. The police checked the lorry and found 84 red sander logs, weighing 2,250 kg, and seized them. The seized red sander logs are worth over Rs 1 crore in the open market. Interestingly, the red sander logs were being transported concealed under the cabbage load.
The police also seized two mobile phones in the lorry. The police identified the absconding smuggler as Murali, belonging to Pileru town. DFO Vinit Kumar said that a massive hunt was launched to arrest the red sander smugglers. A case was registered on the incident...////...
