Apna Dal (Sonelal) president Anurpriya Patel has been carrying the legacy of her father Sonelal Patel, who was considered a big face of Dalit politics in Uttar Pradesh, forward. An MBA by profession, she started her political journey in 2009 after the death of her father in a car crash. The 43-year-old leader having base in Bundelkhand region of UP took a plunge into electoral politics when she won the state assembly election from Rohaniya seat in Varanasi. In 2014 her party allied with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was appointed Union Minister of State after the victory of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the general election. In 2019 her party again contested general election as a part of NDA alliance, during which she won again from Mirzapur seat.
