Jammu, June 24 (Reporter) The annual Baba Chamliyal mela this year is being organised on June 27 in Ramgarh sector of Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir. Deputy Commissioner Samba, Abhishek Sharma on Monday visited the Baba Chamliyal Shrine and reviewed the preparations for the annual event scheduled. He was briefed on arrangements related to various basic amenities. The comprehensive review aimed to ensure a smooth and safe experience for the pilgrims attending the fair. The DC emphasized the importance of installing a surveillance camera on the tower to enhance security measures. Additionally, he mandated a fire safety mock drill to be conducted by Tuesday to ensure preparedness for any emergencies. The Deputy Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the ongoing preparations and reiterated the commitment of the administration to facilitate a successful and safe mela for all attendees. In 2022, the Mela was held after a gap of two years due to COVID pandemic. The ritual of exchanging sweets between BSF and Pak Rangers during the Baba Chamliyal mela was stopped when the event was cancelled following the killing of four BSF personnel, including an Assistant Commandant, in an unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers on June 13, 2018. The annual ‘Chamliyal Mela’ is held with religious fervour at centuries old shrine of Baba Dalip Singh Manhas, popularly known as ‘Baba Chamliyal’, near the village of Chamliyal. The revered shrine is on Zero Line just 200 meters away from the Indo-Pak International Border while its distance from Jammu is around 45 km.
