Washington/New Delhi, Apr 19 (Reporter) Tesla CEO Elon Musk said today that it was an honour to speak with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that he is looking forward to visiting India later this year.
A day after he spoke with PM Modi, the multi-billionaire businessman posted on the X platform that he owns:
“It was an honor to speak with PM Modi.
“I am looking forward to visiting India later this year!”
PM Modi had posted on X yesterday that the two had discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation”.
“Spoke to @elonmusk and talked about various issues, including the topics we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year.
“We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation. India remains committed to advancing our partnerships with the US in these domains.”
Musk, who is known to be close to US President Donald Trump, heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) that points out lacunae in the government and its departments.
PM Modi had met Elon Musk and his three children during his visit to Washington in February this year.
The phone call comes amid talk that Musk’s Starlink is likely to launch its satellite-based internet services in India.
Earlier this week, Starlink representatives met with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal to discuss future investment plans. Goyal had posted on X that he met with Starlink’s vice-President Chad Gibbs and Senior Director Ryan Goodnight. “Met a delegation from Starlink, comprising of Vice President Chad Gibbs & Senior Director, Ryan Goodnight. Discussions covered Starlink’s cutting-edge technology platform, their existing partnerships & future investment plans in India,” he posted.
Major telecoms operators, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, signed separate deals with SpaceX last month to bring the Starlink internet service to the country.
