Kolkata, Jun 1 (Reporter) Aiming to boost the BJP's rank and file ahead of next year's West Bengal assembly election, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Kolkata on Saturday night to meet BJP karyakartas on Sunday.
He is also set to preside over an official function at Rajarhat in Kolkata's north east fringes before returning to New Delhi.
Greeting Shah at the Dum Dum airport, leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari said the visit is of great significance as he would be inaugurating the new building for the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, "a step that will greatly enhance our state's forensic capabilities", the Nandigram MLA said on his X handle.
"We are also looking forward to engaging in discussions on key issues that will drive the development and progress of West Bengal and seek his guidance on strengthening our organizational capabilities ahead of next year's Assembly Elections," Adhikari said.
After inaugurating the CFSL building, Shah would address the party's leaders and others at the specious Netaji Indoor Stadium in the city. The meeting is restricted to the saffron brigade's invitees.
There Shah is expected to set the party line for preparation for the assembly poll, which is expected to take place in the next 8/9 months.
Thereafter he would visit Swami Vivekananda's ancestral home in north Kolkata where he would address a Sanatani sabha. The sanyasi and monks from different partsof the state are expected to attend the meeting.
Shah's trip to the city takes place only two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Alipurduar district of north Bengal. Modi came on May 29 and called upon the youths to prepare for a change of guard in 2026...////...
