Srinagar, Aug 6 (Reporter) Amarnath Yatra has been suspended from the traditional NunWan Pahalgam side in south Kashmir for carrying out maintenance works on the route damaged due to recent heavy rainfall, officials said on Tuesday.
They said the Amarnath yatra will continue from the shortest Baltal route in Ganderbal district till the end of the pilgrimage on August 19.
In view of the maintenance works required to be carried out on the Pahalgam Axis of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra following the recent rains, the Yatra shall continue through the Baltal Axis, they said.
"Due to the recent rains, urgent repair and maintenance works are required to be carried out on the Pahalgam Axis of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. The Yatra shall continue from the Baltal axis," the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, said.
Yatra shall continue smoothly through the Baltal Axis, for which adequate arrangements have been ensured, he added.
The 52-day-long Amarnath yatra began on June 29 from the twin routes of the Kashmir valley and will culminate on August 19 on Raksha Bandhan day.
