Bengaluru, Mar 11 (Reporter) Karnataka Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad on Tuesday termed as "baseless" allegations about the involvement of any minister in the gold smuggling racket purportedly linked to actress Ranya Rao, and wondered whether any state minister would engage in "something as small as smuggling a small amount of gold". "Do you really think a minister would engage in something as small as smuggling a small amount of gold? Such accusations are not only baseless but also derogatory. BJP should not stoop to this level," Arshad told reporters here. Ranya was arrested by DRI on March 3 at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru for allegedly smuggling 14.8 kilograms of gold from Dubai. He pointed out that the investigation is being conducted by central agencies, not the state government. "The probe is being handled by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), both under the central government. If anyone is found involved, let the investigating agencies bring it to light," he added. Arshad further stated that since the probe is under central jurisdiction, the findings should be revealed fairly, allowing for a proper debate on the matter...////...
