Srinagar, Oct 10 (Reporter) Days after facing a rout in Assembly polls, Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) headed by Member Parliament Abdul Rashid Sheikh on Thursday formed an interim functionary to run the party affairs in Kashmir valley.
In the recently concluded Assembly elections, AIP managed to win only one seat from Langate in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district.
According to party statement Advocate G N Shaheen has been appointed as Vice President, DDC Chairman Budgam Nazir Ahmad Khan as General Secretary, Inam Un Nabi as Chief Spokesperson, Sheikh Ashiq as State Secretary, Prince Parveez as Provincial President Kashmir, Aijaz Ahmad Khan as Chief Coordinator, Ajaz Ahmad Lone as Organizer and Parveez Ahmad Bhat as Treasurer. The interim setup will work for one year, a statement of the AIP said.
The formal elections for the various posts of AIP will be conducted after one year and the membership drive to be completed by November 10 this year, the statement reads.
The AIP has also constituted a four-member committee which has been assigned the task of forming the party structure, covering roles from District Presidents to the Vice President level.
The AIP has also appointed Raja Waheed as District President Shopian and Advocate Javeed Ahmad Mir as District President Kupwara besides Riyaz Ahmad Sofi has been appointed as Spokesperson for South Kashmir, Advocate Majid Banday and Advocate Shahnawaz Abdullah as Spokesperson for North Kashmir, Muzaffar Ahmad Dar as Media Incharge North Kashmir and Mohammad Arif Dar as Media Incharge for South Kashmir.
All Media in charge and Spokespersons will work under the guidance of Chief Spokesperson to ensure coordinated communication efforts.
AIP President and MP, Er Rashid expressed hope that it will bring more discipline and strengthen the party's ability to serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He emphasized that this interim phase is a step towards ensuring a transparent, democratic party structure, with formal elections scheduled after one year.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the sentiments and aspirations of the people with a leadership that is accountable and responsive to their needs...////...
