Dhaka/Islamabad, Apr 9 (Reporter) Ahead of the arrival of Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Dhaka, the Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Syed Ahmed Maruf met with the country’s Information and Broadcasting Advisor Md Mahfuj Alam at the latter's office at the Secretariat.
During the meeting, the Pakistan envoy expressed his keenness in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Pakistan Television (PTV) and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), according to Business Standard BD.
During the meeting, the Bangladesh Information Adviser raised the issue of Islamabad's cooperation in broadcasting Bangladeshi channels in Pakistan. Press Counselor of the Pakistan High Commission Fasiha Ullah and Private Secretary to the Information Adviser Syed Enamul Kabir, among others, were present during the meeting.
Ishaq Dar is set to visit Dhaka from April 22 to April 24, in the first visit by any Pakistani Foreign Minister since 2012.
He is scheduled to meet Chief Advisor Mohd Yunus and hold talks with Bangladesh's Foreign Advisor Touheed Hossain and other cabinet members and officials. Both sides are set to ink several MoUs during this meet, focusing on enhancing trade, commercial ties, and people-to-people connections.
Hina Rabbani Khar was the last foreign minister to visit Bangladesh in 2012.
Relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh remained strained during the 15-year term of Sheikh Hasina. The Awami League leader never reciprocated attempts by Pakistan to mend ties as she was aligned with India.
However, after her ouster in August last year, the army-backed Interim Government led by Yunus has been cosying up to Islamabad, citing "brotherly ties", forgetting the 1971 Liberation War and the Pakistani atrocities that led to the breakaway of East Pakistan to form Bangladesh...////...
