Srinagar, Mar 4 (Reporter) After recent rain and snowfall, the night temperature dropped at most of the stations in Kashmir Valley as the ski resort of Gulmarg recorded a low of -12°C, officials said on Monday.
With the improvement in weather, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway was put through one-way traffic after two days of closure due to landslides and the shooting of stones caused by torrential rains at several places.
“National Highway opens for one-way traffic from Jammu to Srinagar after a two day closure. Light motor vehicles are permitted to cross Nagrota until 12 p.m.," traffic police officials said.
Meteorological Centre Srinagar forecast no significant weather activity till March 10 except during the night of March 6 to March 7 forenoon, when there is a possibility of light rain and snow at scattered places over Jammu and Kashmir. Outlook during the subsequent next 5 days, fresh spells of rain and snow during March 12-14.
The MeT office said the minimum temperature during the intervening nights of Sunday and Monday in Srinagar was recorded at -2.0°C against -0.6°C, and it was 4.2°C below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu National had a low of -1.9°C against the 2.0°C, and Kokernag in south Kashmir settled at -2.8°C against the -2.4°C recorded on Monday.
The minimum temperature at Gulmarg plunged to -12.0°C against -10.6°C, and it was 7.5°C below normal for the famous ski resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The mercury at the tourist resort of Pahalgam also slipped down to -6.0°C against -2.4°C, and it was -3.7°C below normal for the south Kashmir district.
Kupwara had a low of -1.5°C against -1.3°C, and it was 2.5°C below normal for the frontier Kashmir district on Monday, the MeT office said...////...
