Chandigarh, Jan 23 (Reporter) Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Pawan Bansal on Tuesday alleged that the Mayoral election to the city civic body was being postponed continuously as the BJP did not have the magic number to form the board. Bansal said if the Union Territory administration wanted, it could have appointed a presiding officer and conducted the Mayoral elections without any delay. By disregarding the Constitution, the city's constitutional rights are being snatched away and money is being wasted. Now even the Punjab-Haryana High Court has raised questions on this. He said the High Court has made it clear that the date of February 6 given by the administration for the Mayor's election is not acceptable to the court. The court has ordered the administration to present the entire programme related to the elections by Wednesday, otherwise it will take up this matter. Bansal said now at least the administration should take action to save democracy without becoming a "puppet" of BJP. Because this is the first time in the history of Chandigarh that due to the Mayor election, Chandigarh is becoming a laughing matter...////...
