Ankara, Aug 21 (Reporter) Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has cancelled a dinner with members of the Turkish parliament due to concerns over potential assassination threats from Israel, Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported on Wednesday, citing sources close to government circles. The decision was reportedly made during his visit to Turkey, where Abbas addressed the Turkish parliament on August 15 and announced his intention to visit the Gaza Strip. Abbas thanked Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus but said he could not stay for dinner, citing the need to reach Palestine before dark. Abbas' urgency was driven by fears of assassination attempts by Israel, according to the newspaper. On July 31, Palestinian movement Hamas said its political chief Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran, where he arrived to attend Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's inauguration.
