Chandigarh, Feb 5 (Reporter) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wholeheartedly welcomed the remarks of the honourable Supreme Court on Monday on the issue of rigging in the Chandigarh Mayor election on January 30th. AAP said that it was a tight slap on the face of the dictatorial Bharatiya Janata Party, which was responsible for the murder of democracy in broad daylight.
AAP said that it is a tight slap on the face of the dictatorial Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which was responsible for the murder of democracy in broad daylight.
AAP Punjab Chief Spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang, along with Chairman Neel Garg, said that it is a very significant statement of the SC where Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has said that what happened in the Chandigarh Mayoral elections is a mockery of democracy and they will not allow democracy to be murdered like this.
Mr. Kang said that the entire nation witnessed the working style of the BJP on January 30th, and they not only disrespected the mandate of the people of Chandigarh but also hurt the faith of all the citizens in our democracy. He added that this decision of the SC on this matter has restored the faith of the people in our democracy and justice system. He said that the people of India will remember this and will give the BJP a befitting reply in the general elections of 2024.
He said that first we had to knock on the doors of the HC to conduct these elections, and then the BJP's presiding officer tampered with the ballot papers on live video. We had 20 votes, whereas the BJP only had 16, but they declared our 8 votes invalid to elect their mayor. It was a murder of democracy in broad daylight, and our whole leadership, including our national convener Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has been fighting against it. Mr. Kang said that we have been asking for action against the presiding officer since January 30th, and today the SC also said that he should be prosecuted.
A SC bench led by CJI Chandrachud directed that the entire record of the recently held Chandigarh municipal elections be sequestered under the custody of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Registrar.
The Bench also directed that the scheduled February 7 meeting of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and their budget session be deferred until further orders.
The AAP thanked the SC for these directions.
Mr. Kang said that India is the biggest democracy in the world, and such dictatorship will not be tolerated here. He added that justice will be delivered to the people of Chandigarh, our country, and our democracy on February 12th.
Kang said that the AAP has complete faith in the power of the people and the justice system of our country...////...
