Srinagar, May 21 (Reporter) The Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) and Peoples Conference paid glowing tributes to separatist leaders Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone on their death anniversaries on Tuesday.
Mirwaiz Moulvi Farooq, the founding chairman of AAC, was assassinated by gunmen in 1990 at his Nageen residence in Srinagar. Abdul Gani Lone, leader of the J&K People’s Conference, was assassinated in 2002 during a ceremony commemorating Moulvi Farooq's death anniversary.
In a statement, the AAC described Moulvi Farooq as a dedicated leader whose life was marked by his commitment to the people.
The AAC expressed deep regret over the inability to organize rallies or events to honor their beloved leader due to restrictions imposed by the authorities, particularly at Eidgah, where people wished to gather to pay their respects.
The AAC highlighted that its chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has been under house detention since May 3, preventing him from participating in any commemorative events for his late father.
The AAC reaffirmed its commitment to following the late leader's path of advocating for the realization of people's rights through peaceful and democratic dialogue, the founding principle of the Awami Action Committee.
The Peoples Conference also held a commemorative meeting to honor the two leaders. Party leaders paid deep respects and reiterated their commitment to upholding the legacies of Abdul Gani Lone and Mirwaiz Moulvi Farooq.
