Rayachoti (AP), July 14 (Reporter) In a ghastly road accident, 9 agriculture workers were killed and 12 were injured when a mango-laden lorry overturned at Reddipalli village of Pullampet mandal in Annamayya district last night. Police said that as many as 21 agriculture workers harvested mango at an orchard at Isukapalli village of Rajampet mandal. They loaded the mangoes on the lorry. The lorry was transporting the mango produce to the mango market yard at Railway Kodur. The workers were travelling on the top of the mango-laden lorry. The accident took place past midnight. The lorry overturned on the bund of an irrigation tank killing nine agriculture labourers and injuring 12 others. The deceased were identified as Chittemma (25), Subba Ratnam (45), Gajjala Durgayya (32), Gajjala Srinu (33), Gajjala lakshmi Devi (36), Radha (39), Gajjala Ramana (42) Venkata Subbamma (37) and Munichandra (38). The injured were admitted to the GGH in Rajampet. All the deceased and injured belonged to the ST Colony located at Settigunta village of Railway Kodur mandal. The lorry was transporting about 30 tonnes of mangoes when the accident took place. All the deceased and injured squatted on the top of the lorry and nine of them were crushed when it overturned. The victims told the media that the accident took place when the lorry driver tried to avoid collision with a car. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock and grief over the ghastly road accident. He spoke to the Annamayya district officials and inquired about the accident. He directed the officials to provide better medical treatment to the injured and extend all support to the bereaved families. Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer expressed anguish over the death of nine people in the accident. In a message here on Monday, the Governor expressed deep anguish and profound grief on the road accident that occurred on Sunday night.
