Srinagar, July 27 (Reporter) Eight people, including five children, were killed after a vehicle they were travelling in fell into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said.
The accident took place near Arshan on Daksum Kishtwar road.
Officials said the vehicle was on its way from Kishtwar to Daksum when the driver lost control and rolled down into a gorge, killing eight people of the two families.
Soon after the accident, senior civil and police officials rushed to the spot.
The deceased include five children and two women.
The deceased were identified as a policeman Imtiyaz Rather of Kishtwar, Afroza Begum, Reshma and five children between the age group of six to 15.
J&K Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, expressed grief over the tragic road accident.
“I am deeply saddened to learn about the loss of precious lives in an unfortunate road accident in Daksum, Anantnag today. My thoughts and prayers are with bereaved family members during this hour of grief. I have issued instructions to the District Administration to provide all necessary assistance to the affected families,” Sinha said.
