Anakapalli (Andhra Pradesh), Aug 21 (Reporter) Eight workers were killed and 25 others injured, most of them seriously, when a reactor exploded in a pharmaceutical company at Atchutapuram in Rambilli mandal on Wednesday.
Police said that when a large number of workers were on duty, a huge reactor exploded suddenly killing three workers instantaneously. They were identified as Pudi Mohan (20), CH Harika (22) and Y Chinna Rao (32). The remaining five workers succumbed to their injuries later.
As many as 25 workers suffered severe burn injuries in the mishap and the condition of many of them is said to be very critical. They were admitted to the GGH in Anakapalli and KGH in Visakhapatnam.
The entire area was engulfed by flames and fumes forcing the workers to flee helter-skelter. The accident took place in the AAS private limited.
Minister for Labour Vasamshetti Subash told the media the exact number of deaths has not yet been established as some workers were trapped under the debris.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Home Minister V Anita spoke to the Collector and SP of Anakapalli district and inquired about the condition of the injured. Under the impact of the explosion the first floor of the building collapsed.
