Hyderabad, Nov 25 (Reporter) In a significant eco-friendly initiative, South Central Railway (SCR) has successfully translocated a 60-year-old Peepal tree (Ficus Religiosa) at its headquarters, Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad.
The tree, approximately 40 feet tall with a 3.5-meter circumference, was moved to accommodate construction activity while ensuring minimal disturbance to its roots.
Nature expert A Chandramouli from Kurnool, known for his work in tree translocation, executed the process with precision. Modern equipment and conservation techniques were employed to safeguard the tree’s root system. Post-translocation care included pre-and post-treatment with neem cake, natural manure, and humic acid. Experts predict new shoots will begin to grow within three to six months.
This initiative follows a similar effort by SCR in 2021 when three trees at Kacheguda's Railway Coaching Depot were translocated successfully.
