6 killed as bus falls into gorge in Uttarakhand

Dehradun (Uttarakhand), Jan 12 (Reporter) At least six people were killed and nine others injured when a bus fell into a deep gorge in Pauri district of Uttarakhand here on Sunday, police said. The bus was travelling from Pauri to Dehalchauri with 28 passengers. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi said that the district control room of Pauri district was informed that a bus went out of control and crashed into a ditch about 100 meters near Dahalchori. Rescue teams from SDRF Srinagar and Satpuli posts immediately rushed to the spot. After reaching the spot, the rescue team started the work of evacuating the passengers trapped in the bus number UK 12PB 0177 of the Garhwal Bus Operators Union. According to Mr. Yaduvanshi, the bus was going from Pauri to Dahalchori. There was a total of 28 passengers on board. Five of them died on the spot while one person succumbed to his injuries during treatment, he said. The remaining 16 people are under treatment. He said that the SDRF team conducted an intensive search around the bus in which nothing was found due to the possibility of someone else being present at the spot. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief over the accident. Dhami prayed to God to grant peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved family to bear this loss.
