5 stranded in evacuation tunnel of HP hydropower project

Shimla, Aug 2 (Reporter) As many as five workers of Malana stage-2 hydropower project were stranded in an evacuation tunnel in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh since morning following a cloudburst in the Parbati valley on Thursday, officials said. Anand Verma, head of Malana stage-2 hydropower project, informed that five workers deployed at control room of the project were trapped in an evacuation tunnel. According to Verma, all the five workers were safe but due to damage to the project a part of the exit gate of the evacuation tunnel had been forced shut. He informed that other 29 workers who were deployed on the Malana Dam-2 successfully opened the emergency door or floodgates of the dam but all of them got stranded before being rescued. No loss of life was reported due to overflowing of the dam and after the opening of floodgates of Major Dam on Thursday morning, officials said.
