Srinagar, Jan 4 (Reporter) Four soldiers were killed, and two others sustained critical injuries when the Army truck carrying personnel skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Saturday, officials said.
They said an Army truck carrying the personnel skidded off the road near the SK Payeen area at around 3 pm along the Srinagar Bandipora highway and fell into a deep gorge. The vehicle was on its way to Bandipora from Manasbal.
“Six injured soldiers were taken to a local hospital where three of them were declared brought dead,. One succumbed to his injuries later” officials said.
Two injured soldiers were shifted to Srinagar for advance treatment.
The Army confirmed the death of four soldiers and said that the vehicle skidded and fell into the gorge due to inclement weather and poor visibility conditions.
Army's Srinagar based Chinar Corps said that the injured soldiers were promptly evacuated for medical care with assistance from Kashmiri locals, for which they expressed gratitude towards the citizens in providing immediate succour.
"Tragically three bravehearts lost their lives in the unfortunate accident. Indian Army extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families," Army said in a post on X. "One more braveheart succumbed to the injuries sustained during the unfortunate accident, while being evacuated. "
This is the second tragic accident in Jammu and Kashmir in the last two weeks when the Army suffered casualties.
On December 25, five soldiers died and five others sustained critical injuries after their vehicle skidded off the road along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
Meanwhile, J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have expressed their condolences over the tragic death of soldiers in the Bandipora accident...////...
