36 still missing in HP’s flood-hit Samej village

Shimla, Aug 2 (Reporter) Rescue teams struggled to trace survivors out of the three dozen people missing people from flood-hit Samej village in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district, officials said on Friday. The village, located on a tributary of the Satluj, was ravaged in the cloudburst on Wednesday-Thursday night. At least six houses were washed away and nearly 36 people were reported missing. No bodies were traced till Friday afternoon even as rescue teams searched areas up to 5 km downstream the village, an official said. In Samej, cowsheds, livestock, and the entire belongings of the victims were swept away by the floods, said an official. District Magistrate Nishant Tomar oversaw the rescue efforts on Friday. So far 20 families in the village have received Rs 15,000 each, totalling Rs 3 lakh, an official said. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap reported that the relief amount was distributed on the evening of August 1. He assured that the rescue operation is progressing swiftly, aided by clear weather. Kullu District Magistrate Torul Ravish has also reached the scene of flood destruction and ordered the relocation of the primary school in New Kundan to another government building. Suitable locations are being identified for the children of secondary and senior secondary schools as well, an official said. An interim relief amounting to Rs 1.25 lakh has been distributed to the affected individuals in the Kullu district area...////...
