34 leopards, 3 Royal Bengal tigers died in Odisha during last 5 years : Minister

Bhubaneswar, Dec 3 (Reporter) As many as 34 Leopards died in Odisha in the last five years Odisha Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate Change Ganesh Ram Khuntia told the state Assembly on Tuesday. Replying to a question from Tara Prasad Bahinipati (Cong), the Minister said the Leopards were killed from 2019-20 to 2024-25, (till November 26,2024) The Minister said of the 34 Leopards 17 died due to poaching, three were electrocuted, one died in train accident, three in a road accident, three due to disease, and four died naturally. The cause of the death of three Leopards has not yet been ascertained. During the period three Royal Bengal Tigers also died. While one died by poachers one died due to infighting and the death of one Royal Bengal Tiger is not yet clear. He said as per the reports of the All Odisha Tiger Estimation Report, Odisha has now 30 Royal Bengal Tigers.
