2 soldiers, 2 porters killed in North Kashmir attack

Srinagar, Oct 24(Reporter) Two soldiers and two civilian porters were killed and three others were injured in a militant attack in Jammu Kashmir's Baramulla district on Thursday, official sources said. The Indian Army's Chinar Corps in a post on X confirmed an exchange of fire happened between soldiers and terrorists in the general area of Baramulla's Butapathri. Sources said militants this evening attacked an army vehicle near the Nagin post of Butapathri close in Baramulla district leading to injuries to five soldiers and two civilian porters. "Out of seven injured, two soldiers and two porters succumbed to the injuries," they said. The identities of the slain could not be established immediately. There is no official word from the Army or police on the fatalities so far. A massive combing operation has been launched in the area to trace the attackers involved in the attack. Police said that some exchange of fire took place between forces and terrorists in the Butapathri sector of District Baramulla around Nagin post. "Further details will be shared after verifying facts," a police statement said The attack in Baramulla took place hours after a high-level security meeting was held in Srinagar which was chaired by J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the recent spate of attacks in Kashmir is a matter of serious concern. “Very unfortunate news about the attack on the army vehicles in the Boota Pathri area of North Kashmir which has resulted in some casualties & injuries. This recent spate of attacks in Kashmir is a matter of serious concern. I condemn this attack is the strongest possible terms & send my condolences to the loved ones of the people who lost their lives. I also pray that injured make a complete & swift recovery,” Omar said in a post on X. Kashmir has witnessed four attacks, most of them on civilians in the past week. On October 18, Ashok Chouhan hailing from the Banka district of Bihar, was shot dead by militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district. Days later, in one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in recent past seven workers including a local doctor of a construction company were shot dead in Ganderbal area of central Kashmir.
