2 bogies of Kannur-Alappuzha Executive Express derailed, no casualties

Kannur, Jan 20 (Reporter) The last two bogies of the Kannur-Alappuzha Executive Express (16308) were derailed before the departure time while shunting at Parakandy, nearby Kannur Railway station, on Saturday. However, no casualties were reported because there were no passengers on board during the incident, railway sources said. The incident took place around 0440 hrs when the train was being brought to the first platform following a shunting process at Parakkandy crossing track, about half a kilometre from Kannur railway station. The scheduled departure time of the Executive Express is 0510, so no passengers were on board the train. The last two bogies were derailed from the track and also damaged the signal box due to the incident. The railway authorities were alerted, and work began instantly to get the train back on track. However, the train continued its service at 0643 hrs, after separating the last two bogies and being delayed one and a half hours to depart the Kannur Railway station with passengers.
