New Delhi, Oct 20 (Reporter) The 10th edition of the Yamuna Trophy 2024-25, aimed at raising awareness about environmental cleanliness and Yamuna River conservation, was inaugurated at the Commonwealth Games Ground in Delhi on Sunday.
In the opening match, DDA Officers XI defeated Delhi Police Officers XI by 15 runs. Arun Dabas, who played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 57 runs off 31 balls, was awarded the Man of the Match title. Neerav Patel was declared the Best Fielder for his outstanding performance. From the police team, Additional DCP Deependra top-scored with 22 runs and also took four wickets.
On this occasion, Justice Sudhir Agarwal, a judicial member of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), emphasized the importance of public involvement in maintaining environmental cleanliness.
“It is not just the responsibility of the government or agencies to keep the environment clean, but public participation is equally important. We must incorporate changes in our daily habits to ensure a cleaner environment," he said.
Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, who captained the Police Officers XI, said, "Spreading awareness about the environment through sports is the easiest way. Along with playing sports, we all need to take a pledge to contribute to the cleanliness of the Yamuna."
Police Commissioner Arora urged citizens to take responsibility for the cleanliness of the Yamuna.
Subhashish Panda, Vice Chairman of DDA, who captained the DDA Officers XI, said, "It is crucial to be environmentally conscious in our daily lives. Our department is committed to the cleanliness of the Yamuna, and we continuously take initiatives to keep the ghats clean and hygienic."
The event was jointly organized by the Indian Development for Human Care and the Indian Media Welfare Association, under the leadership of Rajiv Nishaana.
