10 killed in gunfight at patron saint festival in central Mexico

Mexico City, June 26 (Reporter) At least 10 people, including children, were killed in a gunfight on June 24 night at a patron saint festival in Irapuato, a city in central Mexico's Guanajuato state; President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed yesterday morning. "It was actually a clash, but unfortunately children died," the president said at her daily press conference at the National Palace in Mexico City. "What happened is very regrettable," Sheinbaum said, adding the investigation into the incident is underway and pledging to work with Guanajuato Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo to address the ongoing violence in the state. "We will continue to work together with the governor to the extent possible," the president said. Irapuato's local government issued a statement condemning the attack, which occurred at a private home and left several people with gunshot wounds. The local government acknowledged Irapuato has become a hotspot of violence by organised crime and reiterated its commitment to restoring peace.
