Under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Awas Yojana, 1,067 Bharia tribal families living in the remote forest areas of Chhindwara have been allotted permanent concrete houses. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that this scheme, launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi with a commitment to the upliftment of tribal communities, will be implemented in full across Madhya Pradesh. In addition to the housing allocation by the district administration, an innovative approach of collective procurement of materials has resulted in savings of Rs 1 crore.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Abhiyan, Chhindwara was allotted a target of 5,825 houses. Providing the benefits of the scheme to Bharia beneficiaries residing in the remote areas of Chaurai, Harrai, Tamia, Amarwara, Junnardev, and Parasia posed a significant challenge. The remote location of these villages—situated 100 to 125 kilometers from the district headquarters—created additional obstacles. Housing construction was further hindered by the high prices and poor quality of building materials supplied by local vendors, causing many families to lose interest in completing their homes. To address this situation, Collector Shri Sheelendra Singh personally visited these remote areas with officials, engaged directly with the beneficiaries, and listened to their concerns. He also conducted group discussions with district panchayat staff, assistant engineers, village sarpanches, and others. Through coordinated efforts and active communication with villagers and material suppliers, the availability of high-quality building materials at reasonable rates was successfully ensured.
